Rapper Ja Rule To Spend Over Two Years in Prison

US rapper and actor Ja Rule has been sentenced to 28 months in a Federal prison by a Federal judge for failing to file income tax returns. The sentence which was made on a three misdemeanor count requires the South-South Jamaica Queens rapper to pay up to $1.1 Million to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Born Jeffrey Atkins, the multi-platinum selling rapper who hasn’t had it going good in the music scene for a while openly admitted and pleaded guilty in March 2011 for failing to pay taxes of more than $3 million that he earned between 2004 and 2006. Even though he had asked for four to five years extensions, Ja Rule still failed to file in the tax returns.
I in no way attempted to deceive the government or do anything illegal,” he said, minutes before being sentenced in a New Jersey federal court. “I was a young man who made a lot of money — I’m getting a little choked up — I didn’t know how to deal with these finances, and I didn’t have people to guide me, so I made mistakes‘, Ja Rule explains.
Ja Rule was also sentenced in New York City last month to up to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to attempted criminal weapon possession.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Mack who has asked the judge not to let Ja Rule off with no jail time on the federal charges says ‘The court should impose the same sentence it would impose on someone who is not a celebrity‘.
My business is very ‘out of sight, out of mind,’” he told the judge. “The longer I’m away, the longer it’ll take me to get back to doing what I need to do to actually pay these taxes‘, Ja Rule asked for leniency from the Judge.
The rapper’s seventh studio album ‘Pain Is Love 2‘ is set to drop August 2011.

Gbemi Hits 27!

Super talker and Beat FM OAP Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi rarely parties. But give her a reason to and she’ll kick away all inhibitions, let her hair down and have the fun of a lifetime.
That’s what she did last week, as she clocked 27. The young compere, presenter, writer, on-air personality and entrepreneur caused more than a commotion at Chrome (former Tribeca) as she gathered friends to ‘mark’ her day.
The Chrome party happened on July 15 – three days before her actual b’day. And on D-Day July 18, she got enough cakes to throw a cake party. Friends and fans from all over sent in cakes of all shapes and sizes – everyone knows that apart from alcohol and shoes and bags and clothes, Gbemi, like most women, has a love affair with cakes.
And she loves 2face too! The celebrant got weak in the knees, shocked and excited beyond words, as colleague Toolz played an earlier recorded birthday message from the superstar singer who was away in Warri…

Singer Slam Quits Music

He’s been a member of the rested pop group Oxygen. He’s been signed to Kennis music, where he scored minor hits and delivered chart-topping videos. He’s lived and schooled and performed in England, where he lived for many years, before finally returning home.
But, since moving back home few years back to pick up his music career where he left it, things have not exactly been rosy for singer-songwriter Slam. And, after a failed album, and a couple of unsuccessful single releases, the soft-spoken singer has taken up employment in a Lagos-based PR firm.
Looks like the singer would like to keep this on the low, but our investigations reveal the singer works at the company, Synthesis Communications as a Business Development/Market Strategy executive.  His name and office are listed on their official website. We could not immediately confirm for how long he’s been working there.
On the website, the company says of Slam: ‘Ensures 360 marketing strategy and innovations Co-ordinates brand management activations co-ordinates business trend analysis and market survey. Brief CV: B.Eng. Petrochemical Engineering, MBA (Marketing–Stratford, UK) CCNA (Computer Certification). Over 4 Years experience.’ There’s no mention of his music history.
Other members of the defunct Oxygen include Paul IK Dairo, B-Swave and the deceased Tony Tonero.

Don Jazzy Moves To New York

He’s still working as the President and exclusive producer for Mo’Hits, but Don Jazzy is also making new friends and working hard to make his mark, as he settles in the United States of America.
The young entrepreneur is spending time in New York where we’re told he now has a home. Following his deal with G.O.O.D. Music, sources say he will be in the US for a while, getting familiar with the system and working with colleagues to show his prowess and further sell himself.
‘It’s not like he’s relocating permanently. There’ll be a lot of moving around. But he has to spend a lot of time in the US’, a Mo’Hits insider who’s currently with the party in the US, tells us.
And Don Jazzy is not alone. His Partner D’banj, who’s also a beneficiary of the G.O.O.D. Deal, is also in New York, from where he’s roving; hoping to establish himself as an international entertainer…

Nigerian Idol, running into it’s second year, is also warming up to roll tape again.

No details yet on what shape this year’s shape will take. But as usual, it is expected that auditions will hold pan West Africa.

Berny, Zeus and Mumba Evicted From Big Brother Amplified!

We won't be seeing Hanni any longer...
The housemates in the Big Brother Amplified reality show have been reduced to ten as Bernadina, Zeus and Mumba were evicted from show on Sunday, July 17, 2011.
Bernadina’s who was nominated by Luclay was the first to be called out and she left the House after embracing and kissing fellow Housemates. The ironic story is that the South-African was the closest housemate to her.
Zeus became the second Housemate to be evicted, and was quickly labelled as ‘the most faithful man in Botswana’ by IK on stage. We won’t forget how he continuously refused to have a fling with Nigeria’s Karen.
But it was Mumba’s eviction that brought tears to the some of the housemates – Karen and Kim wear in tears as they watched her leave while Vina was lost for words.
Vimbai remains the head of the housemate as the popular TV show enters its 12th week. Remember it’s a 100,000 Dollars for the last standing housemate come July

‘Love With You’ + ‘Ghetto Love’ – Frank D’Nero Ft Timaya

Geologist turned music producer turned singer Frank D’Nero isn’t a newbie in the Nigerian music scene. After debuting with his ‘Kalangolo‘ album in 2008, the Port-Harcourt based singer rode on the success of his singles ‘Cure My Craze‘ and ‘Kalangolo‘.
Ready to unleash another set of songs, the singer who hasn’t tasted much success unlike his counterparts will be looking forward to win over new fans he failed to do in his last attempt. His soon-to-be released album ‘Sophisticated’ flies with two singles…
In love with you‘, is a typical D’Nero song which sounds really good. With a touch of highlife, the song gets you swaying from the get go. Never mind that it sound like Bracket‘s ‘Ada Owerri‘.
Ghetto Love‘ stands out especially with Dem Mama SoldiersTimaya and Wrecoba on the verses. It might sound like your ordinary club filler at first but it’ll definitely grow on you.get the latest hot music downloads here:

‘Paradise’, Samklef ft Rico Slim

He’s fast becoming one of the biggest pop music hit makers (if he hasn’t already), he’s responsible for the Wizkid’s hit songs and even produced the 2011 theme song for The Headies. Samklef has certainly got things heated up so far in 2011.
His debut work ‘Nonilizing‘ met lukewarm reception but his production skills have got the best of him. Just a few weeks after releasing his ‘Molowo‘ video which featured Wizkid, D’Prince and Ice Prince, he calls on upcoming rapper Rico Slim to wrap up his latest single ‘Paradise‘.

Simple and short, Samklef might just have provided then clubs another banger; thumping kicks, check, snares, check, syrupy synths check! Rico Slim delivers customary eight bars while Samklef borrows the popular hook from the famous singer Phil Collins.
