What’s Next Africa? The Hidden Stories | Find Out How You Can Experience the 2011 Lagos Photo Festival | Enter the Lagos Photo Amateur Photography Competition


If you were in Lagos in October last year and you either passed by the Muri Okunola park in Victoria Island or you drove past the Falomo roundabout, then there’s no doubt the public display of billboard sized photos must have caught your eyes.The public displays of photos that month was done by the African Artists Foundation during the Lagos Photo Festival proudly sponsored by Etisalat.
Lagos Photo Festival is the first international art festival of photography in Nigeria, launched October 2010 and organized as part of an on-going project designed to use art intervention in public spaces. The principal goal of this festival is to establish a community for contemporary photography that will unite artists and ideas from all across Africa. Lagos Photo Festival features indoor exhibitions in addition to large scale outdoor durable prints displayed throughout busy sections of the city with the aim of reclaiming public spaces and engaging the general public, creating a truly unique event.
This year, the inhabitants of Lagos will be treated to a public display of photography works of photographers from around the world like, 2011 World Press Photo winner Jodi Bieber, Mário Macilau, Nana Kofi Acquah and Nigeria’s very own Kelechi Amadi Obi, amongst others. The month long festival has promised to be fun, engaging and mind enriching. You won’t want to miss the following activities in this year’s Lagos Photo Festival:

How to Participate For The Lagos Photo Amateur Photography Competition:

Send in a body of work to medina.d@africanartists.org Minimum of 3 images and maximum of 5 images. Failure to adhere to this will lead to immediate disqualification. Image formats are to be in JPEG and should be sent to the above email address or delivered in person to the AAF Head Quarters at 54 Raymond Njoku road, off Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Prizes To Be Won Include:

First Prize –
N100,000 (with work published in ZAM Magazine)
Second Prize-
N75,000
Third Prize-
N50,000
