Wizkid, Banky W To Star In MTV’s ‘Shuga’ Series

This week Nigerian music act Banky W and protégée, Wizkid, travelled to the Eastern part of Africa, specifically Kenya, to feature in the TV series ‘Shuga: Love, Sex, Money’. Banky and Wizzy will both play themselves in the series, performing during ‘emotionally hard-hitting clubs scenes’ which will be shot at the fancy SkyLounge hangout in Nairobi.
Joining the Nigerian acts in the series will be Kenyan singer Avril and cast members Sharon Olago, David Omwange, Nick Mutuma, Antony Mwangi and Valerie Kimani, Nick Ndeda, Nancy Wanjiku, Brenda Wairimu, Edward Nyanaro, Ikubese Emmanuel, Christopher Otieno and Wairugi Mutero.
Fans of Banky W and Wizkid will also be able to watch the series as Shuga will be airing on MTV channels around the world.
The series is directed by South African veteran director Teboho Mahlatsi and Lupita Nyong’o, who played the pivotal character of Ayira in the first series of Shuga.
The project is being funded by the US Government through her foundation, President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the Partnership for an HIV-Free Generation (HFG).
Shuga Series One was first aired in November 2009 on MTV Base and a large number of other stations in and out of Africa. It bagged a Gold award in May 2010 at the World Media Festival in Hamburg, Germany in the ‘Public Relations Health’ category.
